Atlas Farm is a small family farm located in Deerfield, MA. We grow a wide variety of certified organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers on 55 acres of river bottom soils and sell our products at farmers' markets, a CSA program, and wholesale to grocery stores, restaurants, and grower co-ops throughout the season.
Applicants for all of our positions should be hard-working, reliable, self-motivated, have a valid driver’s license and their own transportation. Farm work is fun and rewarding but also very physically demanding. Applicants should have the desire to work outside even in adverse weather and be able to work early in the morning and for long hours during the main growing season. We pride ourselves on the amazing crew we have here at the farm. We work very hard and focus on efficiency, but also foster a great work environment where people are engaged in their work, enjoy their co-workers, and take pride in an exceptional finished product. Most of our crew have been with us for several years and we are always looking for more talented individual to join our team.
Positions currently available (2012):
Part-time Farmers’ Market Assistants
Farmers' market assistants staff our market stands along with a stand manager. We currently attend 3 weekly markets during the main season from May-Novmeber, Tuesday and Friday from 9am-7pm at Copley Square in Boston and Saturday 5:30am-3:30pm in Amherst center. We generally hire assistants who live in Boston for our Boston markets and people who reside in Western Mass. for our Amherst market. Responsibilities include stand set up and take down, vegetable display, maintaining the stand throughout the day, and customer sales. Previous retail or customer service experience and knowledge of produce are desired. This is a fast-paced, physically demanding position that also involves a lot of interaction with the public. Wages start at $10/hr.
Full-time Field Crew
Our full time field crew works in many aspects of production including planting, weeding, harvesting, packing crops, irrigation, and wholesale deliveries. Hours during the main season (May-November) are Monday-Saturday, 6am-5pm. We also have a part-time crew that works during the winter season (December-April). Applicants should be capable of physically demanding work and be able to work early in the morning. Previous farm experience is desired but not a requirement. Field crew workers start at $10/hr.
Operations Manager
The operations manager position is intended for someone with several years of experience on vegetable farms with a broad background in many aspects of farming and overall farm management. The operations manager coordinates activities in all areas of the farm including greenhouse and field production, marketing, equipment work, and crew management. This is a full-time, year round, salaried position. Hourly requirements vary throughout the season with up to 65 hours/week mid-season and 25-30 hours/week in the winter. Applicants should be interested in a management intensive position and a multi-year commitment to the job. Salary for this position is commensurate with experience.
