About Our Farm

Atlas Farm is a small, family farm located in Deerfield , Massachusetts.
We harvest from our fields every day between May and November. To extend our season, we grow greens in greenhouses throughout the winter and we store crops through the end of March. Our produce is sold directly to consumers at numerous farmers' markets throughout Massachusetts and through our CSA program. We also sell wholesale to area restaurants and grocery stores throughout the season. Flavor and freshness are our priorities from seed to harvest.
The farm was started in 2004 by Gideon Porth and Sara Coblyn. Gideon currently runs the farm with assistant farm manager Stella, shown above, while Sara has moved on to other agricultural pursuits.
Beyond the word "organic," our farm is dedicated to producing food in a way that will maintain biological diversity, support natural ecosystems, and keep the land productive for future generations.
Our goal is to minimize the impact of the farm on the surrounding ecosystem. For these reasons, we add fertility to our fields by cover cropping and using organic, naturally occurring fertilizers.
We manage pests by crop rotation and cultivar selection, and use organic pesticides only as a last resort. We strive to be efficient in our use of fossil fuels and are constantly trying new approaches and innovations in the interest of producing less waste. Ultimately, we are striving towards being a 100% bio/solar powered farm. Currently we use corn-burning stoves to heat our greenhouses and we are green-lighted to begin building solar panels on our main barn in the spring of 2012. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to know more about how we farm.
Each year, we are fortunate to find great folks to add to our farm and market crews. We accept applications throughout the year and are always looking for individuals interested in learning, working hard and having fun.
